the class

I had the opportunity to take The Class in person in NYC in January and it was one of the most  beautiful experiences I have been a part of. A room full of twenty strangers facing each other  on their mats, totally embodied, freeing up their systems through movement, breath and  sound. Powerful. Aimee, the woman who led the class talked about witnessing yourself as you  move—witnessing vs observing. Witnessing by standing by your side and holding your own  hand as you move through your ‘stuff’, instead of observing and judging.  

Imagine doing glute bridges to a remake of Creep by Radiohead, then standing up and shaking  and jiggling every part of your body, then doing a version of burpees with a primal sounding  ‘AGH’ after each one, back to shaking your a**, then doing jumping jacks for 6 minutes  straight, to a heart opening movement with tears rolling down your face and ending in  complete stillness and meditation. And then imagine every single person in the room showing  up fully as they are moving right alongside you, raw and real. No phones, no distractions, just  presence.  

Using movement, sound, breath and stillness to ‘clear’ your system. The Class was truly a form  of fitness I have been searching for, as I feel it is rooted in nervous system regulation. There  were so many moments during that hour that I was brought to tears because of the palpable  presence and oneness that was created. I left that class feeling a sense of stillness and so very  much alive.  

I wanted to share this because I get asked a lot- what “movements” or exercise should I be  doing to support my system? While there are many answers to that question because we all  have different patterns we’re working through, the short answer is The Class. Though the  experience won’t be the same as it is in the actual studio, you can get a glimpse of it through  their online platform. The first two weeks are free and I have linked it below.
